The set of When Nights Were Dark was hand-crafted by Eiko and Koma during their residency on the 91st floor of the World Trade Center North Tower.
During performances, the set was manually turned 300 degrees on a slow moving wheel throughout the 75 minute work. A meditation on time and perspective, the work allowed audience members to see different views at different times. Joseph Jennings of Chanticleer created a haunting a cappella score that was performed live by 5 singers of the Praise Choir of Brooklyn. The piece was named by Anna Kisselgoff as one of the 10 best dances of 2000. This excerpt is from their performance at BAM's Next Wave Festival.
