Private Body/Public Place (2014)

An-installation of moving bodies

Eiko designed the two hour score for herself and for the students in her Private Body/Public Place course at the New School. Together they performed the two-hour durational work twice in the lobby of  the New School on 13th street at Fifth Avenue. These performances were part of Eiko's Guest Artist residency this Spring with Lang Dance at The New School. Eiko assigned each student a large window so all performers are fully exposed to both people inside and outside of the building.  For the audience in the lobby, the pedestrians on the streets rushing by or intently peeking into the windows were just as much a part of the work as the dancers. As the performances took place from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, the lobby grew brighter in the twilight attracting more people on the streets sas the performance went on. Eiko joined time to time connecting the perfumers and windows by dancing with each student a short duet.
