Teaching and performances at Alfred University

Eiko was at Alfred University in upstate New York for a week-long residency March 19-23.

The residency included a new edition of A Body in Places specific to Alfred University, performed on March 21 4-5pm in the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum, and March 22 4:30-5:30pm at Herrick Library.

In addition to the performances, the residency included a master class, open rehearsals, and two lectures. The AU School of Art and Design hosted a lecture on March 21 9-10:45am in Holmes Auditorium, Harder Hall. On March 22 at 12:10pm in the Nevins Theater, Powell Campus Center, Eiko delivered a video lecture as part of the Bergren Forum. The presentation, titled 'A Body in Places: From Fukushima, to the Met Museum, to Alfred, and many out of the ordinary places along the way,' explores Eiko's objectives, challenges, and findings of her A Body in Places project.

Eiko engaged in a number of classes during her residency, including Cultural Anthropology, Site Specific Composition, School of Art and Design Foundations, Art History, Modern Dance, Fundamentals of Dance, and Art Force 5. She also offered an open master class (Delicious Movement) on March 20 11:20am-12:35pm in Miller Performing Arts Center, Studio 300.

The Box of Books Library hosted a book club, in which Eiko and D. Chase Angier, AU professor of dance and Miller Dance Residency program director, discussed Eiko's translation of From Trinity to Trinity, by Kyoko Hayashi. Book club discussion were held March 2, 16 and 23 (with Eiko participating in the final session) from 12-1pm at the Box of Books Library.
