Remembering Sam Miller at Wesleyan University

Wesleyan University hosted a memorial event for Sam Miller ā€™75, Pā€™09 (1952ā€“2018) on May 25, 2019 in their CFA Theater. Sam was a Wesleyan alum and the Director and Co-Founder of the Institute for Curatorial Practice in Performance at Wesleyan University. Friends, colleagues, and students shared remarks, and Eiko shared a work-in-progress of her Duet Project. This most recent project, which was co-conceived by Sam Miller, puts Eiko in conversation and collaboration with artists of diverse backgrounds and disciplines. For this performance, she worked with Mark McCloughan, DonChristian Jones, David Brick, and Ralph Samuelson--all alumni of Wesleyan University. This represented a unique opportunity for Eiko's Duet Project to exist within a theater space, as usually they occur in site-specific locations. Further, this performance represented a collaboration not only with the other bodies in the space, but also with Sam, Eiko's memory of him, and his influence on the project.

Please consider contributions to the Sam Miller ā€™75 Memorial Fund at Wesleyan University in support of the Institute for Curatorial Practice in Performance (ICPP). Contributions may be given online here or mailed to the care of Marcy Herlihy, University Relations, 330 High Street, Middletown, CT 06459.
