Platform Tuesday Installations

This video chronicles three Installations and Artists Responses presented on three Tuesdays, March 1, 8, and 15, as part of Danspace Project's PLATFORM 2016, A BODY IN PLACES. On view from 5:30 pm through 9:30 pm in the Sanctuary of St Mark's Church, three different but thematically connected installations included costumes, props, and videos all from Eiko 's A BODY IN PLACES performances. The videos were edited specifically for the installation with hardly any view of Eiko's face so as to emphasize how her body relate to and navigates within various places she chose to perform.

At 7 pm, invited guest performed in the midst of the installation. Co-presented with Poetry Project, poets Jibade-Khalil Huffman, Robert Kocik, Tonya Foster, and Stacy Szymaszek recited their poems. On March 8, DonChristian Jones performed his new work that included two new videos he created for this occasion. Co-curated by Lydia Bell and Shin Otake, the performance was followed by artists talk by two curators, DonChristian and Eiko. For the last Tuesday, March 15, Eiko invited Valda Setterfield, Forrest Gander, and Margaret Leng Tan to perform in response to the installation and the theme of the Platform.

Lighting Design for the installations and performances by Kathy Kaufmann in collaboration with Eiko and participating artists.
Installation assisted by Mark McCloughan, Megumu Tagami, Alexis Moh, Zack Cohen,
All the videos are shot by Alexis Moh who also edited the videos in collaboration with Eiko.

Eiko is deeply grateful to the participating artists, collaborators, and assistants. A big thank you is also to the staff of Danspace Project including Platform curators, Judy Hussie Taylor and Lydia Bell as well as Technical Director Leo Janks.
