A Body in Fukushima - Ukedo

Hide surroundings Show surroundings

This five minute video is a faster paced section of A Body in Fukushima, a video work entirely consisting of still photos shot by William Johnston. Performed, costumed, edited, sound score and texts by Eiko.

She first created a seven and a half hour video to accompany her full three day performance at the Metropolitan Museum in the fall of 2017. The work was later reconceived as a stand alone installation work that is four and a half hours long. Both include photos from the collaborators' four visits (2014-2017) to irradiated Fukushima after the triple disaster in 2011: earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear meltdowns.
