On June 25th, Eiko and Okwui Okpokwasili presented an Artist Talk as part of the 2016 River To River Festival. In the open studio, notecards were strewn across the floor with ideas and themes that gave small glimpses of the Talking Duet to come. Audience members were also given the opportunity to add to the growing vocabulary of notecards by contributing any burning ideas or questions.
Eiko and Okwui moved together throughout their conversation, and this duet added a second layer of meaning to their evolving dialogue. Beginning on one side of the room, they spent the hour walking toward a shared focal point on the opposite wall. On this shared path, they drank from a the same bowl, discussed their experiences and motivations, and explored one another's creative processes.
