Two Women

Eiko and dancer Tomoe Aihara from Tokyo just finished a week of intensive rehearsals for their work Two Women, which will be experimentally performed in June 2104

In this still evolving piece, Eiko is experimenting with what it is to choreograph on another woman and perform with her. Are the tensions and camaraderie between two women any different from a male-female duet? She is also experimenting with a long-distance collaboration. Eiko lives in New York City and Tomoe is a dancer and scholar living in Tokyo.

In the work Eiko and Tomoe are trying to make both geometrical distance and age difference malleable. More than 20 years Eiko's junior, Tomoe is making Eiko me see how aging is a movement, a kind of dancing, and an unavoidable invitation.  Each body contains this "drama," dealing with time.

The work is conceived and choreographed by Eiko. The set and costumes are also designed and handcrafted by Eiko
