Eiko presented a keynote address at the Association for Asian Performance's International Symposium: Sexual Artifice in Asian Art and Performances
on October 19, 2013. Eiko's speech, "Eiko & Koma: Nakendess. Before Sex; Beyond Sex; Within Sex", was introduced by Shoji Kato
, a local visual artist. The three day symposium, held at the University of the Arts in Helsinki, Finland, brought together scholars, historians, and performers from a variety of disciplines and nationalities to discuss questions gender and sexuality in traditional and contemporary Asian performance practice.
Simultaneous to the symposium Eiko taught two fully-booked Delicious Movement workshops at the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art. One workshop was for professional dancers and performing artists while the other was open to the community, including symposium participants.
The symposium was organized by Asian Art and Performance Consortium (AAPC) of the University of the Arts Helsinki and it is part of an ongoing research project Shifting Dialogues – Asian Art and Performance funded by the Academy of Finland.
