The Caravan Project at Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center

Eiko & Koma’s one-year engagement with the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center (University of Maryland, College Park) ended with the performance of The Caravan Project, which had been re-conceived at Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago the previous summer.  At UMD, Koma drove the van and played music, like an ice cream truck, approaching the spot. Eiko was a lonely figure in the box holding and changing the light until Koma joined her for a duet. As Koma drove away the trailer at the end, one audience member shouted, “Look, they are waving good-bye to us!”
