"Naked" opens at the Walker

On Monday, November 1, 2010 friends, critics, and collaborators gathered in Gallery 2 of the Walker Art Center for a preview of Eiko & Koma's living installation, Naked, commissioned by the Walker for the multi-year exhibition "Event Horizon," exploring performativity in the Walker's permanent collection.

We expected guests to wander through the installation and head to the reception, but that is underestimating the power of the environment and Eiko & Koma's sustained performance. Joko Sutrisno, a former collaborator of Eiko & Koma's, said that he had watched for two hours and could have stayed for longer.

Walker director Olga Viso spoke at the reception and commended the Visual Art and Performance Departments for their collaboration, as well as Eiko & Koma for their years of history with the institution. Philip Bither, Senior Performing Arts Curator, recognized the key support of individuals in the room such as Isao Tsujimoto from Japan Foundation and Retrospective Project Producer Sam Miller.
