Commissioned by the Whitney Museum American Art in New York in 1988, Eiko & Koma created Breath, a living installation that they performed in the museum's 2nd floor gallery. For four weeks during all the hours the museum was open to the public, they performed live within the multi-media environment they designed and hand-crafted. The ceiling and floor was covered with dirt, dyed silk, dry leaves. They designed changing light but instruments were all hidden from viewers, Three videos of their naked body parts moving were projected onto the blacked background forming mysterious landscape. Eiko and Koma performed nude entire month.
