Eiko & Koma spent four weeks this spring in Alaska as Alaska AIR fellows, a program administrated by the United States Artists and funded by the Rasmuson Foundation. Their residency was hosted by Alaska Dance Theater, where Eiko & Koma rehearsed and worked on a new set design.
On March 27-19, Eiko & Koma performed at Camai Dance Festival.
At this 3-day gathering, 22 dance groups - over 450 dancers, drummers, and singers between the ages of 2 to 92 - celebrated the Yup'ik Eskimo tradition of dance. This annual festival offers cultural renewal and immersion into indigenous dance. Eiko & Koma were invited to perform on all three days as special guests and made many new friends. see Village Rural Blog and Eiko & Koma in Camai
